Looks like competition in the 5? Full HD 1080p display touting smartphone space is heating up. And another Chinese giant, ZTE this time, is all set to unveil their contribution to the Full HD phablet world, in the form of the ZTE Grand S, at CES 2013 in January.
Earlier today Engadget received an anonymous tip with a leaked photo of the ZTE Grand S, model numbered Z753. Incidentally, ZTE has been teasing the Grand S on Sina Weibo, an extremely popular Chinese micro-blogging site, and what could be called a Chinese hybrid version of Twitter and Facebook put together. The pic above is from the same source.
While most OEMs usually put out a teaser for their products ahead of a CES unveiling, ZTE has been far more revealing in its pre-CES announcement description of the Grand S.
So we already know now that the ZTE Grand S will be made of ceramic material and feature a Full HD 1080p 5 inch display. But the interesting part here is that ZTE is claiming that this will be the thinnest 5-inch FHD smartphone in the world. Last we heard, the Oppo Find 5, another 5-inch FHD smartphone from China was the thinnest 5-incher coming in at 6.9 mm. We already know that ZTE has been pushing the how thin can you get bar with the ZTE Athena at 6.2 mm, and wonder how thin they have managed to get with the Grand S.
Here’s a leaked pic of what the ZTE Grand 5 front looks like:
Quite a neat looking design, we must say. While there are no particulars available on what kind of internal muscle this baby will pack, we do know that the Grand S will feature a unibody design with a slight bump on the back where the off-centred camera module will be located, as you can see from the sketch in the main image at the beginning of this article.
And here’s a promotional flyer for the ZTE Grand S.
No other information is available at this point, including whether or not the ZTE Grand S will make its way outside China. Going by the fact that the Oppo Find 5 is now available in the U.S., it wouldn’t be far stretch to expect ZTE to launch the Grand S stateside too. But we guess, we will know more soon enough, with CES 2013 being just around the corner.
