Owners of the Samsung Galaxy S2 have been eagerly waiting for the official Jelly Bean Android 4.1 update from Samsung, expecting it to come through anytime now. Samsung Sweden had confirmed in late October that the update would be released sometime in November.
November passed without any incident, and we are already more than halfway into December now, and there is still no sign of colorful beans yet. Sammobile, the unofficially official source for everything Samsung, seems to have come across some new information which suggests that December is also likely to pass without any incident, as far as the Galaxy S2 is concerned.
While Sammobile sources indicate that the update for the European market is ready for rollout, the recently discovered exploit in Samsung’s Exynos SoC could be the reason for Sammy holding back the update, till it has solved the bug.
Also, word is that Samsung plans to cover more countries simultaneously withe the rollout and complete it within 1-2 weeks. Which means that even if the update is delayed for now, once it starts rolling out sometime in January 2013, coverage will be rapid.
The Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update brings with it a completely redesigned TouchWiz UI which feels a lot more responsive, along with the slew of standard Jelly Bean features like Project Butter, Google Now, expandable notifications and the ilk.
Of course, if you don’t want to wait that long to get Jelly Beaned, you can always flash the leaked XXLSJ Android 4.1.2 firmware and be done with it. The leaked firmware has been reported to be surprisingly stable and performs quite well. But if you’re keen on the official stuff, looks like you’ll have to spend New Year’s eve and perhaps a good part of January on Ice Cream Sandwich.
